VoteVets Launches $750k Ad Buy for Matt Maasdam in MI-07

“Obama trusted Matt when the stakes were high. We can too.”

Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets is announcing an initial three-week $750,000 ad buy in support of Matt Maasdam in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. A University of Michigan graduate, Matt joined the U.S. Navy, and served under presidents of both parties as a Navy SEAL – deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and the Pacific. He later served as the lead instructor for “Hell Week” at SEAL training and served at the White House as Military Aide to President Barack Obama, specifically chosen to carry the nuclear launch codes. Now, Matt lives in Michigan with his wife Laura, who served as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, and their two sons. VoteVets was an early endorser of Matt, noting that his bio and experience makes him the candidate best positioned to flip this crucial seat in the fall.

The first ad, “Trust,”  highlights Matt’s extraordinary career and reinforces that he has the integrity and character voters are desperate to see. MI-07 is a top-flip opportunity for Democrats with the district currently represented by Republican Congressman Tom Barrett, a veteran of the U.S. Army. Democrats cannot afford to not put forth the strongest candidate to win this seat – and the strongest candidate is the one with crossover appeal who can mobilize the Democratic base and neutralize Barrett in rural counties and blue collar manufacturing exurbs. Matt’s own military service will be a key asset in defeating the first-term Congressman, as will his fresh and unconventional profile, a departure from the typical Democratic mold.

The ad will run starting Tuesday on broadcast stations, cable systems and DirectTV/Dish addressable across the district. Additional paid media investments in this primary from VoteVets may be announced in the future.

AD TRANSCRIPT:

“Hard to know who to trust these days. But ‘trust’ is why President Obama chose Matt Maasdam to carry the nuclear launch codes. Obama called Maasdam an ‘extraordinary leader’ with ‘integrity’ and ‘character’ who’d ‘tackle our nation’s toughest problems.’ That’s exactly why Matt’s running for Congress – To take on the corruption, bring down costs, and rein in ICE. Obama trusted Matt when the stakes were high. We can too.”
