Fighting for Those Who Fight For Us
VoteVets Policy Priorities
From national security, to jobs and healthcare, to defending our Constitution and democracy, VoteVets is on the front lines of some of the toughest policy fights.
VoteVets was founded in 2006 by Veterans who had doubts about the trajectory of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We wanted to change the way our nation talks about war, how and why we send our military into harm’s way, and what we can do to prevent future conflicts, particularly through strengthening our diplomatic efforts. We believe war is always a last resort, not a first option.
VoteVets holds true to that mission today. We work to address all threats to our national security, including but not limited to:
- Ending the forever wars
- Preventing the spread of nuclear weapons
- Combating the spread of disinformation and the rise of violent extremism
- Giving the best an equal opportunity to serve
- Reversing climate change, which threatens global security.
Economy, Jobs, and Healthcare
After completing military service, Veterans need and deserve a strong economy that works for them, and access to high-quality, affordable health care. VoteVets is a strong advocate for economic programs that create jobs for Veterans, and make our nation more competitive in the 21st century. We work closely with our allies in the labor movement to advance pro-veteran, pro-union policies. VoteVets believes providing all our servicemembers, Veterans, and our families with the ability to obtain high-quality, affordable health care is essential. VoteVets will always fight ongoing attempts to privatize our Department of Veterans’ Affairs health care.
Democracy and Voting Rights
In the wake of the 2020 election cycle, we’ve seen disturbing attempts to undermine our elections and make it more difficult for individuals to vote across the country. VoteVets works at both the state and federal level to defend against attacks on voting rights and support pro democracy reform efforts to ensure all Americans can exercise their right to vote. Through all of this work VoteVets does what we do best: amplify the voices of Veterans and military families to remind elected officials and newsmakers that attacks on our democracy are attacks on the very rights and privileges so many served to protect and defend—and that those attacks will not stand.
