VoteVets PAC Endorses Matt Maasdam for Congress

When elected, Maasdam will be the first Democrat Navy SEAL to serve in the House of Representatives.

Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets PAC is announcing that it is endorsing Matt Maasdam in Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District, one of the country’s most competitive House Districts and one of just eight Republican-held toss-up seats.

A University of Michigan graduate, Matt joined the U.S. Navy, and served under presidents of both parties as a Navy SEAL – deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and the Pacific.. He later served as the lead instructor for “Hell Week” at SEAL training and served at the White House as Military Aide to President Barack Obama, carrying the nuclear codes. Now, Matt lives in Michigan with his wife Laura, who served as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, and their two sons.

In the general election, Matt faces Republican Congressman Tom Barrett, a veteran of the U.S. Army. Matt’s own military service will be a key asset in defeating the first-term Congressman, as will his fresh and unconventional profile, a departure from the typical Democratic mold. The following quote can be attributed to VoteVets Senior Advisor, Former Congressman Max Rose:

“Matt Maasdam has dedicated his life to service and now he’s stepping up to serve again. His unique background is proof that he can be trusted to put politics aside and prioritize working families in Michigan. With so much on the line this cycle, VoteVets is proud to be standing with Matt –  the only candidate who can win this key battleground district. We look forward to helping him win this race and to seeing the great work he does delivering for Michigan when he becomes the first Democrat Navy SEAL to serve in the House of Representatives.”
