VoteVets Dramatically Escalates Fight over GOP Hold on Military Promotions with New National TV Ad Buy, Display on Capitol
WASHINGTON, DC – VoteVets, the largest progressive group of Veterans in America, is today ramping up its campaign against GOP holds on military promotions with a week-long national ad buy on the issue and a dramatic display at the Capitol. The actions build on previous ads the group has run in Alabama and Florida, among other activities.

In the style of old movie newsreels, the ad explains that while Tommy Tuberville is responsible for the hold on Military promotions, Senate Republicans who have refused to speak out against him are complicit in the blocks. The old-time announcer declares, “Their tight lips could sink ships!”
The ad is airing for one week on national cable — including on FOX News where it will be seen on Fox and Friends, taking the message right to GOP base voters.
The group also is sponsoring a display today on the east front of the Capitol where signs for each of the 300-plus promotions on hold will be placed for all Senators to see. Each sign has the name, branch, and position of each servicemember whose promotion is being blocked, as well as their picture. The signs call on the Senate to end the block, with the hashtag “#ConfirmThemToday.”
Samples of the signs can be seen here: https://act.votevets.org/go/7261?t=6&ak_proof=1&akid=17119%2E2017105%2E7CmcTl
Previously, the group ran weeks of ads in Alabama and Florida, featuring veterans taking the GOP to task for the holds, and fielded a poll in Alabama that showed most voters felt it was time for Tuberville to drop the block on promotions. The group has been — by far — the most active Veterans group on the issue.
