Retired Major General to Mattis, Milley: Whispering to Bob Woodward Does No Good
Washington, DC — Major General (Ret.) Paul D. Eaton, senior advisor to VoteVets, released the following statement, regarding news that former Defense Secretary, and retired General Jim Mattis called Bob Woodward to say he agreed with retired Army General Mark Milley’s assessment of Donald Trump being a threat to America:
“I implore Generals Mattis and Milley to publicly say what they’ve told Bob Woodward and make an endorsement in this presidential race.
“If Donald Trump is a fascist and a threat to America, your duty requires you to speak out, as much as you want to observe precedent and stay out of elections. An apolitical military is essential to America and our Republic – but only if that Republic exists.
“If the threat to it and the Constitution is as great as you say Donald Trump is, the oath you swore requires you to take action.
“I have the greatest respect for each of you and was proud to serve with you, but the threat posed by Donald Trump requires that you do more than whisper to Bob Woodward. You must not walk past this mistake.”
