VoteVets Statement Supporting the Murphy-Lieu City and State Diplomacy Act
WASHINGTON, DC – The following is the statement of VoteVets senior advisor, retired Major General Paul D. Eaton, on the City and State Diplomacy Act led by Senator Chris Murphy and Congressman Ted Lieu:
“While most attention is paid to diplomacy on the national level, so many treaties and agreements show their true impacts on the regional and local level. Strong diplomacy is the most effective way to prevent future conflict. Therefore, for the strongest possible diplomacy, it makes sense to dedicate resources to city and state diplomatic efforts, so that mayors and governors can strengthen relationships with their foreign counterparts.
"I applaud Congressman Lieu and Senator Murphy for their leadership on the City and State Diplomacy Act, commend the House for passing it in this year's defense policy bill, and encourage the Senate to do the same."
