VoteVets Statement on Latest Afghanistan News
WASHINGTON, DC — As American forces continue their drawdown in Afghanistan, Mary Kaszynski, Director of Government Relations for VoteVets released the following statement:
“We are just over two weeks away from the formal end to the war in Afghanistan – a war that took far too many lives, and drained too much money from the US taxpayer. What started as an urgent security mission – decimating Al Qaeda’s capabilities and delivering Osama bin Laden to justice – morphed into an unattainable goal of using military force to nation-build. After 20 years and trillions of dollars and thousands of lives, there is nothing more that the military could achieve in Afghanistan.
"President Biden is to be commended for having the strength to stand up to those who want endless war, and saying “enough.” There is strong bipartisan support among the American public for the President’s approach, and we agree. Afghanistan’s future is now up to the Afghan people and leaders. We can support them, but we can’t fight their war for them. Our Afghanistan War is finally coming to a close, thanks to this President.”
