VoteVets Statement on House Hearing on Presidential War Powers
Washington, DC – Will Goodwin, Director of Government Relations for VoteVets released the following statement on today’s House Rules Committee hearing on curbing Presidential War Powers:
“Today’s hearing was a tremendous first step in getting Congress to reassert their Constitutional privileges and responsibilities, especially those related to War Powers.
“It was refreshing to see a truly bipartisan effort on display led by Reps. McGovern and Cole — mirroring the outside support this movement has generated, led by groups like VoteVets on the left and Concerned Veterans for America on the right.
“The Constitution makes it clear: War Powers belong to the Congress — not to any president, no matter their political party. Today’s hearing took us a bit closer to again making that a reality.”
