VoteVets Slams GOP Short-Term CR For Shortchanging Disabled Veterans

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, VoteVets is slamming Congressional Republicans for putting forth a short-term government spending bill that shortchanges disabled Veterans.

In a statement, Mary Kaszynski, VoteVets’ Director of Government Relations said:

“House Republicans are once again showing their deep disrespect for the Veterans community by proposing a six-month budget bill that shortchanges the Cost of War Toxic Exposures Fund by $12 billion.

“This is an outrageous betrayal of the promise made to Veterans in the Honoring our PACT Act. Shortchanging the VA by $12 billion is morally reprehensible, and just plain cruel. House Republicans should be ashamed — but they won’t be. This is just the latest in a long line of attacks on Veterans and the benefits we earned.

“Not only is the House Republican proposal a betrayal of the Veterans community, this budget also undermines military readiness by putting Department of Defense funding on autopilot for six months. A bill that endangers our national security is a non-starter.

“We strongly oppose the House Republican budget proposal and urge every Member of Congress to join us in standing firm against this attack on Veterans healthcare and our national security.”
