VoteVets Sets Red Line for Republicans and Democrats on War Powers Vote

“We expect all Members, of both parties, to stand up and do their constitutional duty by supporting the bipartisan resolutions from Senators Kaine and Paul, and Representatives Khanna and Massie. VoteVets will hold Republicans and Democrats accountable who do not.”

On behalf of the nearly 2 million veterans, military families, and their civilian supporters of VoteVets, the group issued this open statement to senators and members of Congress of both parties today on the upcoming votes on bipartisan war powers resolutions on the Iran War.

“With casualties mounting in the Iran war, goals and rationale that keep changing by the second depending on which administration source you talk to, and the threat of ground troops going in to a protracted war of regime change, we are far past the time for Congress to require the president to seek authorization from Congress, or have this war end.

“Twenty years ago, we founded this organization to ensure that the voices of American soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines were heard in the halls of power. For two decades, we have organized, fought, and built power for this exact moment. We did not spend twenty years building political power to watch members of Congress duck their constitutional responsibilities when lives are on the line.

“We expect all Members, of both parties, to stand up and do their constitutional duty by supporting the bipartisan resolutions from Senators Kaine and Paul, and Representatives Khanna and Massie. VoteVets will hold Republicans and Democrats accountable who do not.”
