VoteVets Endorses Remillard for Congress, Against Madison Cawthorn

Candler NC – The national veterans group, VoteVets PAC, is today endorsing Josh Remillard for Congress, as he seeks to defeat Madison Cawthorn, in 2022.

“Josh is the real deal,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chair of VoteVets. “He’s blunt, he gives it straight, and he doesn’t back down from tough fights. We’re talking about a guy who re-upped in the military, while he was deployed to war. His commitment to this country, our Constitution, and his community is real. His service is real. Unlike other politicians, Josh doesn’t need to pretend to be a tough guy. What you see is what you get. And unlike Madison Cawthorn, he’ll stand up to insurrectionists and domestic terrorists – not embrace them.”

“But Josh offers more than just that. He understands the threats we face, from outside our country and within, and he knows what it will take to keep our communities safe and prosperous. He’s going to shake up Washington, and we’re proud to support him,” Soltz added.

Josh Remillard is a native son of North Carolina; born in Goldsboro, raised in Wilmington. He bounced around from foster home to foster home until his grandparents adopted him at four years old.

He enlisted in the Army in 2006 as an Infantryman. His first duty station was 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3/7 Cavalry. He rose up through the ranks to Sergeant and positions of ammo bearer, assistant gunner, gunner, squad leader, and platoon sergeant.

His first deployment was from 2007 to 2008, during the surge, to Baghdad. His platoon was tasked as a Personal Security Detail (PSD) for Military in Transition Teams (MiTTs), during which time he earned his Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

He was again deployed to Iraq, from 2010 to 2011. While on deployment, he reenlisted for another three years for a total of eight.

After returning, he attended the Army’s basic leadership course, Warrior’s Leadership Course (WLC). He was then stationed at Grafenwoehr, Germany for three years under the 172nd Brigade Combat Team, 1/2 Infantry. While on Rear Detachment, he became the Platoon Sergeant for the 4th Platoon. He finished his last year of enlistment in Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX under the 1st Armored Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

He earned his college degree in politics, philosophy, and economics at the University of Washington.  He, his wife, and two daughters then moved back to North Carolina.
