VoteVets Endorses Gilbert Villegas for Congress

CHICAGO, IL – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets PAC, is today endorsing Gilbert Villegas to be the next Member of Congress from Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District.

“Gil is a true American story,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets. “Rising up out of public housing, to then serving our country in uniform, and returning home to his community to serve the people there, Gil’s shown a deep commitment to serving others. He’s also remembered his brothers and sisters who served in uniform, keeping their wellbeing in mind, as he has risen in elected office. That is the kind of mindset and dedication that we need more of in Washington. Gil’s always been there for us, and we’re proud to be there for him.”

Villegas is a combat veteran who proudly served overseas as a United States Marine (1988-1992) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Prior to deployment, he was assigned to the 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Missile (LAAM) Battalion in Yuma, Arizona.

Alderman Villegas created the first municipal Veterans Caucus in the United States and has recently worked with his colleagues to create a Veteran Business Enterprise Program to offer the same bid incentives previously offered to Minority and Women Owned Businesses.
