VoteVets Endorses Fred Wellman for Missouri’s Second Congressional District
Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets PAC is announcing that it is endorsing Fred Wellman for Congress in the Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District. During the last election cycle, VoteVets invested $50 million to help elect candidates that received our endorsement. Our efforts proved effective, as we saw a high success rate for these candidates, especially at a time when many other Democrats struggled. Thanks in part to these investments, 143 VoteVets-endorsed candidates emerged victorious, even amidst a global trend towards the right.
“Fred Wellman has led in war zones, rebuilt communities in crisis, and stood up for working families his entire adult life. That’s why we proudly endorse Fred for Congress in Missouri’s Second District – we know he can meet the urgency this moment demands. His campaign is building a real coalition of neighbors, veterans, workers, parents, and community leaders who want a representative who will put Missouri families first.
“We stand with Fred because he is ready to serve and bring real leadership back to Missouri’s Second Congressional District.”
Fred Wellman grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri, and graduated from Kirkwood High before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. A multi-generation military veteran, Fred served more than twenty years in the U.S. Army as an aviation officer, deploying multiple times to Iraq and earning his Ranger tab along the way. After earning a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School between combat deployments, Fred retired from the Army and founded ScoutComms, a nationally recognized Benefit Corporation advocacy firm that supported veterans and military families.
When the pandemic struck, Fred helped lead a Special Operations medical team in building and operating New York Presbyterian Ryan F. Larkin Field Hospital in New York City. He later served as Executive Director of the Lincoln Project, organizing efforts to strengthen democracy and government accountability. Now back home in Wildwood with his fiancée Heather, their dogs Ash and Maple, and their cat Shugs, Fred is running to replace Ann Wagner as U.S. Representative for Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District. His campaign will remain focused on service, affordability, and fighting for Missouri families.
“Missourians are tired of watching Ann Wagner protect billionaires and power while families in Missouri struggle to afford groceries, health care, and housing. Her long record of silence and inaction has come at a steep cost, and our district deserves a representative who will confront these challenges head-on. I am honored to have the support of VoteVets as we take this fight on,” said Fred Wellman for Missouri’s Second Congressional District.
