VoteVets Endorses Dr. Kermit Jones for Congress
DAVIS, CA – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets PAC, is endorsing Dr. Kermit Jones for Congress, from California’s 4th Congressional District.
“At a time of security risks and a pandemic that is still impacting our life, there are simply not many who are qualified to go to Congress and lead, than Kermit Jones,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran, and Chairman of VoteVets. “It’s not just that he signed up after 9/11 to serve, or that he’s dedicated his life to keeping people healthy and alive. It’s that time and again, when Kermit Jones could just look out for himself, he instead looks to serve others. That’s a spirit we need in Washington, these days. Not one of selfishness, but of service. We’re very proud to endorse him.”
As Kermit Jones was completing medical and law school, the tragedy of 9/11 struck, followed by the invasion of Iraq. As Kermit looked at photographs of military doctors saving the lives of Americans and Iraqis on the frontlines, he knew he could help. So Kermit joined the Navy, trained to be a flight surgeon with a Marine helicopter casualty evacuation squadron, and deployed to a U.S. Air Base in Al Anbar Province, where he took care of U.S. service members and Iraqis.
After returning from Iraq, Kermit used his GI Bill benefits to study public policy at Columbia University. He became a White House Fellow in the Obama Administration, working in the Immediate Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services on health care policy. After completing the Fellowship, Kermit worked at a law firm to get lifesaving medications on the market and worked at a Federally Qualified Health Center to provide healthcare to people without health insurance, before moving to Northern California to become a primary and urgent care physician.
