VoteVets Endorses Auchincloss for Congress
NEWTONVILLE, MA – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets PAC, is today endorsing Afghanistan veteran Jake Auchincloss to be the next Member of Congress from the 4th Congressional District in Massachusetts.
“In these times, especially, we need more people in Congress who combine smarts with a spirit of service to others, and Jake Auchincloss is a perfect example of that,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War veteran and Chairman of VoteVets. “Jake’s experience in Afghanistan, and the military, makes him acutely aware of the security challenges we face, and what it will take to keep the country safe. And it is his spirit of service that will ensure that the people of the district always have someone in Washington who puts them and their wellbeing first.”
Jake Auchincloss served as a captain in the Marines, commanding infantry in Afghanistan (2012) and multi-national special operations in Panama (2014). After graduating from Harvard College with degrees in government and economics, Jake commissioned through Officer Candidates School. He trained as an 0302 infantry officer and an 0307 reconnaissance officer, and was the Honor Graduate from Basic Airborne Course in 2015.
In Afghanistan, Jake commanded a dismounted light armored reconnaissance platoon on patrols through three contested villages in Helmand Province. He worked with Afghan Police and tribal elders. In Panama, Jake commanded a combined operation of Colombian special forces, U.S. Navy personnel, and U.S. Marine reconnaissance in training the Panamanian Public Forces in drug interdiction tactics. This mission was featured in the Marine Corps Times.
