VoteVets Backs Air Force Veteran Karinshak for Congress in Georgia
NORCROSS, GA – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets PAC, is today endorsing Air Force Veteran and Georgia State Senator Zahra Karinshak (D-48) for Congress, in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District.
“This is a very winnable district, and Zahra’s spirit of service and patriotism makes her a great candidate and a great future Member of Congress,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War veteran and Chair of VoteVets. “Not only did she jump at the chance to serve America in uniform, but she came home and decided to serve her community, including protecting victims of abuse and children. That’s the kind of heart and dedication to her neighbors that is so desperately needed in Washington these days. We’re proud to endorse her.”
Karinshak entered the US Air Force Academy in 1985 after being nominated by Congressman Buddy Darden. At the Academy, she studied international affairs, and was commissioned as an officer. During her intelligence training she earned the highest-ever academic average. She worked at the Pentagon where she met her husband, a West Point graduate. She also served as an intelligence officer during the first Gulf War, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and numerous other awards. Between her and her husband there are 9 siblings, 7 of whom are veterans.
