VoteVets Action Fund Launches $1.6 Million Ad Campaign Holding Ashley Hinson Accountable for Supporting Iran War

Part of larger effort to educate voters on who in Congress is voting to continue the Iran war

Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets Action Fund is launching a new $1.6 million ad campaign holding Representative Ashley Hinson accountable for her five votes in favor of the costly and unpopular war in Iran. Prices in Iowa and across America have skyrocketed as a result of the war, including for gas and fertilizer, yet Representative Hinson has voted time and again against ending the war. The ad, which will run on television over the next three weeks in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids markets, will be accompanied by digital advertising. It educates Iowans about her voting record and urges them to tell Hinson to start putting Iowa first.

“The war in Iran has cost families and farmers in Iowa and across our country dearly, making basic necessities like gas and fertilizer much more expensive,” said VoteVets Senior Advisor Max Rose. “Despite that, Ashley Hinson has sided against Iowans by voting five times to continue the war, which has been dangerous and expensive. We are launching this effort to hold her accountable for voting to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on foreign wars instead of on lowering costs and helping Americans at home.”

This ad campaign is part of VoteVets Action Fund’s larger efforts to hold Washington D.C. policymakers accountable for supporting the Iran War.  In May, VoteVets Action Fund installed signs on Capitol Hill with the cost of gas in each district where Members of Congress voted to extend the Iran war – and drove mobile billboard trucks around the districts of six Republican Congressmembers who support the war. In April, VoteVets Action Fund ran a $250,000 ad buy targeting Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden over his support for the war as prices at home skyrocketed. In March, VoteVets Action Fund projected quotes from Donald Trump on the RNC Headquarters building and on “Trump Institute of Peace”, highlighting his hypocrisy in promising to end forever wars.

AD TRANSCRIPT:

Narrator: In Iowa, Ashley Hinson likes to play the part. She says she supports Iowa farmers. But in Washington, she’s someone else entirely.

Five times Hinson’s voted in favor of the War in Iran even though no one’s been hit harder than Iowa. Record gas prices. Record fertilizer costs. Farms going under. And Ashley Hinson’s voting for all of it in Washington.

She plays the part in Iowa, but doesn’t do her part for us in D.C. Tell Ashley Hinson, put Iowa first.
