New Video and Tracker Fact-Check Trump’s Lies That the Iran War Will End in “About Two Weeks”

New campaign is part of a broader partnership between Home of the Brave and VoteVets to mobilize veterans and pro-democracy Americans against Trump’s disastrous policy agenda

WASHINGTON – Tuesday, September 29, 2026 – Home of the Brave and VoteVets released a new video and tracker, AboutTwoWeeks.com, documenting the Trump administration’s repeated failed promises to end the war in Iran in “about two weeks.” This is part of our ongoing partnership to mobilize veterans and pro-democracy Americans in opposition to this administration’s disastrous foreign and military policies.

The video features multiple instances when Trump said publicly that the war would be over soon, despite having no clear exit strategy, and regularly breaking those promises. The tracker features an interactive calendar documenting more than 60 video clips of Trump promising to end the war. The documented statements include:

  • March 7: “We’re winning the war by a lot. It’ll continue for a little while.”
  • March 31: “Maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days.”
  • April 16: “We’re very close to making a deal.” 
  • June 9: “The Strait [of Hormuz] will open up right away.”
  • July 8: “They want to make a deal so bad.”
  • August 3: “Literally by tomorrow.”
  • August 6: “It could be soon.”
  • September 2: “We’ve already won.”
  • September 9: “The war will be over very shortly after the election.”
  • September 16: “Before the midterms. Very soon. Watch. You just watch.”

It has been more than 208 days since Trump started the Iran war. Since then, at least 19 American service members have died, and more than 800 have been injured. Dozens of US aircraft have been damaged or destroyed. Military costs exceed $43 billion, and Americans have paid over $100 billion extra for gas and diesel. The national average gas price is approaching $5.00. 

Earlier this month, Home of the Brave and VoteVets partnered on another campaign to mobilize the military community against Trump’s plans to build a vainglorious arch at Memorial Circle. That campaign included veterans, Gold Star families, and preservationists speaking out against the arch, which former Maj. Gen. “The president’s repeated promises to end the war in ‘about two weeks’ are falsehoods intended to hide the fact that he has no plan and no cards left to play,” said Sarah Matthews, advisory board member and spokesperson for Home of the Brave, and former White House deputy press secretary. “We won’t stop calling out this insult to America’s heroes, because they signed up to give their best to this country, and Trump is giving them his worst in return.”

“The notion that a war with Iran would be quick and easy was absurd from the outset, and anyone with an ounce of military experience or common sense knew it,” said retired Major General Paul D. Eaton, Senior Advisor to VoteVets. “And now, seven months later, with at least 19 who’ve died in this war, and as many as 22 or 23, Trump continues to show that he’s learned nothing, as he tries to lie his way through another Forever War he’s gotten us into. This video lays out what an absolutely abysmal commander in chief America has right now.”
