Josh Turek Surges Ahead in Iowa By 20 Points

Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets is releasing a new poll that shows Josh Turek is surging ahead in the Iowa Democratic Senate primary, leading his opponent by 20 points (48%-28%). The survey, which was conducted from April 21 to April 23, was commissioned by VoteVets of 600 Iowa Democrats likely to cast a ballot in the state’s June primary, shows State Representative Josh Turek has gained momentum over the past month since VoteVets began its statewide communications program. You can read the polling memo HERE.

Key insights include:

  • Turek has a broad base of support among Iowa Democrats. He leads by double digits regardless of gender as he is ahead by 15-points with men (44%-29%) and 24-points with women (51%-27%).
  • Notably, voters ages 65 and older favor Turek by more than 30-points (53%-21%). This is a major advantage since older voters are more reliable primary voters and may comprise a majority of Democratic primary voters in June.
  • Turek’s support cuts across ideology. He is ahead by 14-points with self-identified progressives (46%-32%) and he leads by almost thirty points with those who say they are moderate or conservative (50%-22%).

With five weeks until election day, this survey demonstrates that Josh Turek is well-positioned for Iowa’s June primary. It also shows how Josh Turek’s message and personal story are resonating with Iowa voters, and that VoteVets’ statewide advertising campaign has been effective. Turek’s support among likely Iowa Democratic primary voters has increased by 21 points since a previous poll VoteVets commissioned from March 11 to March 14.

VoteVets has spent $5.5 million so far in support of Turek, running three different ads statewide across Iowa airwaves on March 24th.
