Tim Sanchez

Tim Sanchez was born and raised in East Oakland by a Puerto Rican mother and a Mexican-American father surrounded by a large family deeply ingrained in the East Bay community. Like many Americans after 9/11, Tim answered the call to serve and joined the US Navy Reserves. He was deployed three times, including a combat tour in Afghanistan.

Tim has also worked at numerous financial services companies and Silicon Valley startups. He founded Tertulia Cafe in East Oakland, near the neighborhood he grew up in. Tim was selected to be a member of the 2021-2022 Writers Guild Foundation’s Veterans Writing Project, which identifies emerging writers from military backgrounds.

Tim earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of San Francisco and a dual MBA from Columbia University and the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Tim has three adult children, and lives in Oakland.
