VoteVets Endorses Callie Barr for Congress in Michigan’s First District
Military spouse, caregiver, teacher, and attorney takes on Rep. Jack Bergman in November
Washington, DC. – Today, VoteVets announced its endorsement of Callie Barr in Michigan’s First Congressional District. Barr won the Democratic nomination on August 4th and will face Republican Rep. Jack Bergman in the November 3rd general election.
“Callie Barr has spent her life taking care of a wounded Marine and fighting for the families who carry that weight,” said VoteVets Senior Advisor Max Rose. “Jack Bergman handed Trump a blank check for a war in Iran, then voted to take health care away from the same rural communities that send their kids to fight it. Callie is exactly the kind of candidate Democrats need: a teacher, an attorney, and an advocate who has spent years winning fights for veterans and their families. VoteVets is proud to endorse Callie Barr.”
“I’m honored to earn the support of VoteVets because, for my family, standing up for veterans has never been an abstract political issue. My husband Matt served our country as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan, and when he came home with combat injuries, our family experienced firsthand what it means to fight for the care and benefits our veterans have earned,” said candidate for Michigan’s first congressional district Callie Barr. “Michigan’s First District has more veterans than any other in the state. They deserve more than a congressman who talks about his own service while failing to stand up for the people who served alongside him. Jack Bergman has forgotten that representing veterans means fighting for them after they come home, and fighting for the spouses, caregivers, and families who carry the weight of that service with them every day. Congress needs more people who understand those sacrifices personally. I do, and I will never stop fighting for the veterans and military families of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.”
