VoteVets endorses Joe Rocha for Congress
ESCONDIDO, CA — The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets, is today endorsing Joe Rocha for Congress in California’s 50th Congressional District.
“Joe’s story is the American story,” said Will Fischer, Iraq War Veteran and Senior Advisor to VoteVets. “Coming from a family of Mexican immigrants who came to America with little, his grandparents and father managed to raise a family. Joe faced adversity, but never gave up. Instead, he chose to serve others, in the military. Because of a discriminatory policy, he was forced to leave the military. He could have given up then, but fought to overturn that rule – Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell – and after he was successful, went right back into the military. ‘Selfless’ doesn’t even begin to describe Joe’s view of service. His dedication to his country, community, and justice is what will make him an excellent member of Congress. We’re proud to endorse him.”
Joseph Rocha is a veteran with a lifelong dedication to service.
Joseph joined the Navy on his eighteenth birthday, quickly advancing to become a bomb dog handler, tracking down explosives in the Persian Gulf. After he was discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, he became an advocate for repeal, swearing he would re-enlist and keep fighting to protect his country, as soon as it would let him. Following the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Joseph rejoined the military, rising to the rank of a Marine Corps Captain and prosecutor. Joseph is running for Congress out of the same sense of duty that has guided him his entire life. Joseph will fight for the hardworking people who have too often been left behind by career politicians who only look out for themselves.
