VoteVets Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) organization, whose primary purpose is to advocate for issues that impact troops, veterans, and their families. VoteVets is the nation’s largest network of progressive veterans, with over one and a half million supporters nationwide. Our policy work focuses on matters including national security, robust investment in care for veterans, energy security, protecting the rights of those who serve, and upholding the Constitution and democracy that every military member swore to uphold and protect.

 

Position

VoteVets is seeking a legislative professional to help advance our policy goals. The Government Affairs Policy Associate will play a key role in developing and implementing the organization’s advocacy strategy. 

The ideal candidate will be a self-starting, entrepreneurial thinker with keen political instincts and strong attention to detail who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of Congressional offices by deepening existing relationships and growing new ones between Members of Congress and VoteVets; formulating and guiding execution of strategies to advance our policy priorities; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislative initiatives and policy developments on veterans’ issues. 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Legislative Familiarity: The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of legislative/lobbying experience. 
  • Research and Presentation Skills: This position requires the ability to thoroughly analyze policy matters, quickly draft and edit legislative analysis, talking points, and other materials, and strong interpersonal and presentation skills. 
  • Issue Fluency: The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of policies and legislation directly impacting the veterans and military community.
  • Attention to Detail: ability to manage multiple projects at once while maintaining a commitment to a detail-oriented approach.  
  • Collaborative Worker: Ability to work across departments within the organization. 

 

Compensation

The salary range for this full-time position is $60k-$80k, depending on experience. Our competitive benefits package includes paid vacation, sick, and personal leave, health and dental insurance stipend (100%), and a 401k program including an employer match.
